Gary Holton

Gary Holton (1952-1985) was an English singer, actor, and musician, best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Heavy Metal Kids. Emerging from the glam rock scene of the early 1970s, Holton's music blended elements of glam rock, hard rock, and pub rock. The Heavy Metal Kids gained popularity with their self-titled debut album in 1974, which showcased Holton's powerful voice and charismatic stage presence. Notable works include the albums "Heavy Metal Kids" (1974), "Rock 'n' Roll Tactics" (1975), and "Kiss My Soul" (1976). Although the band never achieved mainstream success, they developed a dedicated following and influenced the punk rock scene with their raw energy and rebellious spirit. Holton's impact extended beyond music; he also appeared in television and film, most notably in the British sitcom "Auf Wiedersehen, Pet," where he portrayed the character Wayne. His untimely death in 1985 at the age of 32 cut short a promising career, but his contributions to rock music and his dynamic performances continue to resonate with fans and musicians alike.
